monday.com exports a board as an Excel file. Save it as CSV, and thisflow's CSV import reads its columns by name. You see a preview first, nothing changes until you confirm, and the board in monday.com stays as it is.

Export the board from monday.com

In monday.com, open the board, open the board's ⋯ menu at the top and choose to export the board to Excel. monday.com saves an Excel file (.xlsx).

Do this for every board you want to bring along: thisflow imports one file at a time.

Save it as CSV

thisflow reads CSV files, not Excel files. Open the export in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets and tidy it so that each task is one row under one row of column names:

  • First row: the column names, such as Name, Status and Date. If the sheet starts with the board's name or a group's name, delete those rows.
  • One row per task: each group comes as its own block of rows. Delete the group headings and the repeated column names between the blocks.
  • Project: add a column called Project with the board's name on every row. Without it every task goes to your Inbox, and since the Inbox has no sections, the statuses are left out.
  • Groups: to keep the groups as sections, add a column called Section with each task's group. thisflow then uses Section instead of Status, so delete the rows of finished tasks first, or they come in as open tasks.

Then save it as CSV: in Excel, Save As → CSV UTF-8; in Numbers, Export To → CSV; in Google Sheets, Download → Comma-separated values. A Swedish Excel writes semicolons instead of commas, and thisflow reads both.

Open Import in thisflow

Go to Settings → Data → Import, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) and choose Import from Todoist or CSV. The page is called Import tasks.

Press Choose a file, or drop the CSV on the page. The preview shows CSV file under the file name.

Check the preview

Before anything is added, the preview shows what the file holds:

  • New projects and New sections that will be created.
  • Tasks and Recurring tasks. Comments stays at 0, because thisflow does not read comments from a CSV file.
  • A line with how many rows were already done and are left out.

If some rows could not be read fully, a note such as 2 rows need a look lists each row and why. If dates are listed there, fix them in the file and choose it again, so every task gets the right date. A row without a name is skipped. A note that the date “Date” could not be read means the column names still repeat between the groups: go back and delete those rows.

If the numbers are not what you expected, press Choose another file. Otherwise press the import button, which shows the number of tasks, for example Import 42 tasks.

Know what comes along

Here is how the columns map to thisflow:

  • Name: becomes the title.
  • Section or else Status: each value becomes a section in the project. Rows whose value there is Done, Complete, Completed, Closed or Resolved are left out.
  • Date, Due date or Deadline: dates such as 2026-10-24, 24/10/2026, 24.10.2026 and 24 Oct 2026 become the due date. Dates with slashes are read day first.
  • Priority: a word such as Critical, High, Medium or Low becomes P1, P1, P2 or P3. Anything else means no priority.
  • Tags: a comma-separated list becomes one tag for each value, in lower case.
  • Notes or Description: becomes the note, if your board has such a column.
  • Project: each name becomes a project, or joins the project you already have with that name.

Some things stay behind:

  • People columns. Every imported task is assigned to you.
  • Subitems. Every row becomes a task of its own.
  • Timelines, numbers, files, updates and any other columns.

Import the tasks

Press Import 42 tasks (with your number). thisflow adds everything in one go and opens the project (or your Inbox, when the tasks went to several projects or none), and a message confirms how many tasks were imported. If something looks wrong, press Undo in that message to take the whole import back.

Check the result

Open the project and look it over:

  • Switch to Board to see the sections as columns. The same tasks show in List and Calendar; see Kanban boards.
  • Open a few tasks in the side panel and check titles, tags and dates.
  • Every new project also gets a Done section at the end, and a To do section if the file gave it none. When you complete a task, it moves to Done.
  • New projects are created in your personal workspace. To work on one together, share it: see Share a project and pick roles.

Can I import the Excel file directly?

No. thisflow takes CSV files (and Trello's JSON), so save the sheet as CSV first. The file picker offers only those, and an Excel file dropped on the page shows no tasks to import.

Where are the people on my board?

People columns are not read, so every task is assigned to you. Share the project with your team and assign the tasks again in the task panel.

Why did my groups disappear?

In the export, groups are headings above their rows, not a column, so thisflow cannot see them. Add a Section column with each task's group before you import, as in the second step.

What happens if I import the same file twice?

You get the tasks twice. Projects and sections are reused by name, but every row is added again. Press Undo right after an import you did not mean to make. For a side-by-side look at the two tools, see thisflow vs monday.com.
