You can bring your Linear issues to thisflow with Linear's CSV export. thisflow shows a preview first, nothing changes until you confirm, and your workspace in Linear stays as it is.
Export the issues from Linear
In Linear, open Settings, find Import / Export in the workspace settings and choose Export CSV. Save the CSV file you get.
The import page in thisflow has the same hint under How to export from your current tool.
Open Import in thisflow
Go to Settings → Data → Import, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) and choose Import from Todoist or CSV. The page is called Import tasks.
Press Choose a file, or drop the CSV on the page. thisflow recognises the file by its columns, and the preview shows Linear export under the file name.
Check the preview
Before anything is added, the preview shows what the file holds:
- New projects: one for each Linear project, plus one for each team with issues outside a project.
- New sections: one for each status in use.
- Tasks, with how many of them are subtasks (sub-issues).
- Recurring and Comments. Both stay at 0 for a Linear file, because thisflow does not read repeats or comments from it.
- A line with how many issues were already done, canceled or archived and are left out.
If some rows could not be read fully, a note such as 2 rows need a look lists each row and why. If dates are listed there, fix them in the file and choose it again, so every issue gets the right date. A row with no title is skipped.
If the numbers are not what you expected, press Choose another file. Otherwise press the import button, which shows the number of tasks, for example Import 42 tasks.
Know what comes along
Here is how Linear maps to thisflow:
- Projects: each Linear project becomes a project with its name. Issues without a project go into a project named after their team. If you already have a project with the same name, the issues go into it instead.
- Statuses: each status becomes a section with the same name, such as Backlog, Todo and In Progress.
- Issues: each issue keeps its title, and its description becomes the note.
- Sub-issues: become subtasks, in their parent's section. thisflow keeps one level, so a sub-issue of a sub-issue goes under the issue at the top, and the preview says so.
- Assignee: matched by name with the people in thisflow. If the file has an email address, thisflow uses the part before the @, so sara@example.com finds Sara. An issue with no match is assigned to you.
- Priority: Urgent becomes P1, High P2, and Medium and Low P3. No priority stays no priority.
- Labels: become tags, in lower case.
- Due date: kept.
Some things stay behind:
- Issues that are completed, canceled or archived, and issues with the status Done, Canceled or Duplicate.
- Estimates, cycles, milestones, comments, attachments and relations between issues.
Import the issues
Press Import 42 tasks (with your number). thisflow adds everything in one go and opens the project (or your Inbox, when the file filled several projects), and a message confirms how many tasks were imported. The new projects are in the sidebar. If something looks wrong, press Undo in that message to take the whole import back.
Check the result
Open a project and look it over:
- Switch to Board to see your statuses as columns. The same tasks show in List and Calendar; see Kanban boards.
- Open a few tasks in the side panel and check notes, subtasks, tags and dates.
- Every new project also gets a Done section at the end. When you complete a task, it moves there.
- New projects are created in your personal workspace. To work on one together, share it: see Share a project and pick roles.
Why is there a project named after my team?
Issues that belong to no Linear project go into a project with their team's name, so nothing ends up loose. Move them to another project, or keep the project as it is.
Do estimates and cycles come along?
No, those columns are not read. The issues themselves come along with their status, priority, labels and due dates.
Can I import only some teams or projects?
The file holds what Linear exported. Import it, then archive the projects you do not need; their tasks are kept, and you can restore them from Settings → Archived projects.
What happens if I import the same file twice?
You get the issues twice. Projects and sections are reused by name, but every issue is added again. Press Undo right after an import you did not mean to make.
