You can bring your Todoist projects to thisflow one file at a time. Each file shows a preview first, and nothing changes in thisflow until you confirm.

Export each project from Todoist

In Todoist, open a project, open its ⋯ menu and choose Export as a template, then save it as a CSV file. Do this for every project you want to bring along: Todoist makes one file per project, and thisflow imports one file at a time.

Keep the file name as Todoist gives it. thisflow names the new project after the file, so "Website launch.csv" becomes the project Website launch. A file called "Inbox.csv" goes into your thisflow Inbox.

The import page in thisflow has the same steps under How to export from your current tool, in case you need them while you work.

Open Import in thisflow

Go to Settings → Data → Import, or press ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux) and choose Import from Todoist or CSV. The page is called Import tasks.

Press Choose a file, or drop the CSV on the page. thisflow recognises the file as a Todoist export by itself.

Check the preview

Before anything is added, the preview shows what the file holds:

  • New projects and New sections that will be created.
  • Tasks, with how many of them are subtasks.
  • Recurring tasks and Comments.

If some rows could not be read fully, a note says how many rows need a look, and you can open it to see which row and why, for example a date it could not read. Such a task is still imported, without the date.

If the numbers are not what you expected, press Choose another file. Otherwise press Import with the number of tasks, for example Import 42 tasks.

Know what comes along

Here is how a Todoist project maps to thisflow:

  • Project: a new project named after the file. If you already have a project with the same name, the tasks go into it instead.
  • Sections: become sections. A section with the same name in that project is reused.
  • Tasks and descriptions: each task keeps its title, and its description becomes the note.
  • Subtasks: one level of subtasks. Anything nested deeper becomes a subtask of the nearest top-level task above it, and the preview says so.
  • Priority: p1 to p4 keep their meaning, so a Todoist p1 is a thisflow p1.
  • Labels: become tags.
  • Due dates: read the same way as quick add, so repeats such as "every weekday" or "every monday" stay repeats.
  • Comments: become comments on the task.
  • Assignees: a task assigned to someone in Todoist is assigned to the person with the same name in thisflow, if there is one.

Some things stay behind:

  • Times of day and durations are not imported; set them again where you need them.
  • Repeats counted from completion (every! in Todoist) come in as ordinary repeats.
  • The export holds your open tasks, so finished tasks stay in Todoist.

Import and tidy up

After the import, thisflow opens the project (or the Inbox), and a message confirms how many tasks were imported. If something went wrong, press Undo in that message to take the whole import back.

Repeat the steps for your next project. When everything is in, you can switch the project to Board or Calendar, keep capturing with quick add, and invite the people you work with: see Share a project and pick roles.
